Late night, flashlight and head under my covers is how I spent most of my childhood nights. I was a fervent reader as a kid. Then life happened and who had time to pick up a book in the midst of marriage, cooking, diaper changing? It certainly had to be a good book and something that could add value to my life as a mom and wife and daughter of the King.
Even now, as a mom with nearly grown sons, I do find a bit more margin in my life to soak in a good book. But more than that, I *need* it for a reprieve from the noise of my phone and the swirling in my head.
With all that is going on in the world and in our minds these days, I imagine you too, could use a good book. So I want to offer you my weekly recommendations for something to pick up and carry to the beach, or just to the lawn chair in the yard. Whether fiction or non fiction (my personal preference), I look to dig into books that will cause me to grow either in loving God or serving others. I want my time spent in a book to be worthwhile in some way.
A favorite book I recently read, and immediately recommended to anyone who would listen was Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist. Yall! What a beautiful inspiration to open my home in hospitality, first for my own family and then for others. Hebrews 13:2 commands us to “not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” And who doesn’t love warm, crusty bread and a glass of wine? This book is an inspiration towards this. She even includes amazing recipes and many are gluten free, which is important to my family. You buy the book here and begin living out the light of Christ right in your own home and neighborhood.
Are you a book worm too? What good books have inspired you recently? I would LOVE to know your book recommendations to throw in my beach bag this summer!
