a guide to an uncluttered soul

Life is littered with noise and cluttered with expectations. We sift through social media and navigate our way around podcasts, news, Netflix and the like only to feel full of junk food by bedtime.

We are left feeling empty, drained and weighed down.

I came to the Lord in the cluttered season of young motherhood over 20 years ago. Having rarely darkened the door of a church, I knew nothing about God’s Word when He first unveiled my eyes and I surrendered to Him.

Over the last two and a half decades of married life, raising kids to adulthood, and just being a human in this fallen, complicated world, I have had to lean hard on God and His word for stability. Thankfully He is the rock that never shakes and His Word is living and active and sharper than any double edged sword.

After years of hearing the faint whisper of God mingled in the voices of other people, I yearned for an uncluttered method that would help me to tend to my soul as a gardener tends a garden.

After years of hearing the faint whisper of God mingled in the voices of others, I yearned for an uncluttered method for engaging in God’s Word.

I studied the Bible through the workbooks and trade books of others. I heard the Word preached and taught by wonder leaders, but I desperately craved a nearness to Him that could only come through His own voice on the page of His own Word to me.

Workbooks studies, commentaries and the like offer others’ perspectives for our time in the Word. But I need a daily, consistent rhythm of slowing down to hear His voice for myself.

It is in those uncluttered moments of time in His Word where I learn His unforced rhythms of grace (from Matthew 7:28 Message Bible).

Slowing down and allowing my soul to exhale at His feet with an uncluttered method that guides me into deeper intimacy with God, is life-giving for me. This method allows me to hear God without the help of workbook studies and commentaries and aids. Just me, my Bible and the Holy Spirit.

Are you ready to hear God through His Word with an uncluttered approach that will feed your soul and help you to know God better? You’re in the right place!
